TIME TO BE THANKFUL
You’re going to help create this week’s sermon. Send me an email of what you’re thankful for. I’ll share what you’re thankful for as part of my message this Sabbath.
Just send the email to pastorkermit@gmail.com. The sermon title is “In the Attitude of Gratitude.”

SPECIAL WORSHIP THIS WEEK
Our worship this week will give us a chance to thank our police officers for the service they give to us and our community. If you have a friend or family member on the force, invite them to church so we can thank them. We have a video tribute to police as well, and the choir will sing at the 11:00 service.

RESULTS OF OUR VOTE
We surveyed the congregation about whether to continue two worship services. The vote was close: 82 for two services, and 54 for one service. Younger people tended to want two services; older people wanted one service. People who attended at 9:30 were more likely to want two services. Several people said they would do whatever the majority wanted. The Church Board on Tuesday night voted that we should continue with two services until next June, and then revisit the decision. In addition, the board asked that we solicit member ideas for making the services better at attracting guests to church.

PASTOR’S BLOG FOR NOVEMBER 19
I stopped by the Maryland State Police Barracks in College Park to invite them to our worship service this week, and I learned a huge lesson. Lieutenant Miller paused a long time. “Why do you want us to come to church?” he asked. I replied, “We want to thank you for your service to us.”  He shook his head; “No one’s done that before.” I went to the Beltsville station of the Prince George’s CountyPolice – and had the same reaction. Officer Edwards just stared at me for a long time, then said, “Really?” I could tell that police officers rarely hear someone say thank you. Is there someone you should tell thank you? Maybe a teacher, or a service repair person, or a bus driver? I want to cultivate the attitude of gratitude, so that I tell people more often that I’m grateful for their service to me.
